Android?

Ok... so maybe I'll start writing about my super geeky technological machinations.  At least Lou and Armin will appreciate it :-)

So... first attempt, start small...

I think my conversion from iOS guy to Android guy has progressed another step.  I'm writing this from a nexus 7 I just picked up at staples of all places.  I've got 14 days to return it if I don't like it, so it's time to play comparo with my old iPad 2.

So far so good.  Even though it's a much smaller screen, at 7 inches...it's actually got higher resolution.  That was actually my only major complaint with the old iPad... reading on it wasn't great.  Tolerable, but not great.  This is actually better... even for pdfs of magazines.  Tried out Premier Guitar so far and its good.  Need to try a few more.

App wise it's been good too so far... I think almost everything I was using on the pad I've found on the nexus.  No complaints yet.

It'll be nice to have the tablet match up with my phone ecosystem...I have a galaxy s3.

More to come, perhaps.

blogging

I keep having ideas for things I could blog about... maybe i'll start one of these days. I do have this blog. For example, my ridiculous technological adventures... like dealings with my turntable, cartridges, styli, cantilevers, etc. we'll see.

Tell Louis What To Do: Listen to Sloan

Lou, not terribly creative or surprising this time. But since you're a free man again, you should listen to a bunch of Sloan.

Tell Louis What To Do: Listen to Springsteen

So, yeah, after watching Bruce on Spectacle... rekindled my interest a bit. Dug out "Darkess" and listened to it a few times. Now you must, too, Lou.

Theory / Rant: Smiling

I find myself unable to not watch American Idol... despite the fact that I find it musically irrelevant. (Was going to say "abhorrent"... but that's probably a bit harsh. It basically doesn't stand for anything musically, for me.) That's fine. I'm still a snob, no doubt, but mellowing.

But, it does make me remember one of my long-standing "rules" about music. At least rock... the performer should not be smiling a lot while singing/playing. If they are, they're too damn happy and should get off the stage.

It's probably not a blanket rule for everything... i'll admit. First thought of this one back when the Barenaked Ladies were popular. At some point someone told me I would like them, so I think Klitt and I saw them at the hatch or something... wow awful stuff. And made worse by all that smiling. Trying *way* too hard. Maybe that's the key -- just be genuine.

I guess it's possible to be genuinely smiley playing rock on stage... but not those guys. Or the Idols, who are obviously coached on performance. Someone backstage there prob told them to "smile alot". Fuck that. Be real.

That being said, I will attempt to smile for the whole show at the next Sneaks performance, whenever that may be.

(Ok, Lou, you can go back to sleep now.)

Tell Louis What To Do: Listen to Jamie Lidell

Lou,
Do you have a copy of "Multiply"?

If not, get one.

Then listen to it.

That is all.

Tell Louis What To Do: Take out the Canonet

Yeah, I know the G10 is like a 2nd or 3rd dick for you... but your Canonet is a different thing.

Go to CVS.
Buy some of the Kodak Professional Black and White film (not Tri-X... the C41 stuff).
Walk around Cambridge and shoot at least one roll.
Get it processed with a CD.
Marvel.
